So our county fair is going on right now and as I was walking from where I parked. Someone had a sign in front of their house that only people there for an estate sale could park in front of their house, but no fair parking. I can’t see how this is actually enforceable because you don’t own the street in front of your house, the city does. I understand not blocking someone’s driveway. But isn’t preventing people from parking on the street in front of your house really not enforceable. Across the street from the fair is a Safeway in a strip mall, and they had a sign saying “no fair parking”as well. that one makes sense because the parking lot is private property. But is the former actually just aa load of crap? Or am I totally wrong?

Park there and find out. If you get in actual legal trouble, don’t worry. *Steve Lehto’s got your back!

I’m pretty sure that it’s the city’s, and that the resident does not have authority to allow or prevent parking there.

The resident could have attracted less attention by parking their own vehicles at that curb, instead of posting passive-aggressive signage. While this doesn’t actually alleviate the parking situation, it would effectively maintain open space in their driveway for visitors.

If an unauthorized vehicle was parked in the driveway, or blocking it, that is enforceable, and the tow truck is just a phone call away.

Depends on ordinances. We recently had a news bit on this sort of thing involving a viral video from Denver of a lady “saving” a parking spot downtown and someone trying to back into it. So this woman gets all yelly and rude, “move it lady!” and bullying the driver trying to back in.

Turns out, local law makes the only person or group able to hold a parking spot, someone holding a permit to do so. So, the town can and does by covering up the meters with those ‘no parking’ bags or sawhorses labeled ‘special event parking’ or something like that. The lady in the street did not have the legal authority to do what she did.

A simple person wishing something to be so does not make it so and is not enforceable where I live. But, you never know. they may have had the ability to get a permit for their evvent, just like the fair has to get permits for it’s event.

Well I truly doubt this person had a permit.
